The Mare Purchase Program offers breeders a significant incentive to invest in Ontario's breeding industry. To qualify, breeders must purchase in-foal mares at recognized public auctions outside Ontario, ensuring the progeny foal in Ontario in 2024. Only bona fide sales are eligible, excluding RNA's.
Applicants must be Ontario residents with a valid AGCO license, and partnerships with non-residents must provide ownership details. Applications require an invoice from a recognized sales company, proof of payment, the mare’s registration papers, and a commitment to the Mare Residency Program.
The program provides 50% of the purchase price up to $25,000 CAD per mare, with a minimum purchase price of $10,000 USD and no maximum. The maximum distribution per participant is $75,000 CAD, with a $2,500 CAD bonus for mares bred back to a Registered Ontario Sire in 2024.
The total funding is $500,000 CAD, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, considering Canadian and US dollars at par. Ownership cannot be transferred until commitments are fulfilled, and eligibility remains if a mare aborts, provided other criteria are met.
How it Works
1. CREATE AN ACCOUNT
2. REGISTER TO BID
Now you are ready to bid!
3. HOW TO BID
Always review your bid before hitting the BID button.
$1,000 - $3,000 = $250.00
$3,000 and up = $500.00
MAXIMUM BID OR AUTOMATIC BIDDING (Recommended)
EXTENDED BIDDING
The auction will have a staggered close. If a bid is placed on a lot during the last minute on the time clock, the auction will go into extended bidding for that lot and another minute will be added to the clock to allow the under-bidder to respond. Bidding for that lot will not close until a minute passes without a bid being placed.
If no bid is placed on a lot during the last minute of the auction, that lot will close.
BUYER PAYMENT
After the auction has ended, you will be contacted by the CTHS to determine your method of payment:
