Incentives for Owners

Owners in Ontario benefit from a range of incentives aimed to improve the quality of the horses based in the province.

Ontario Bred Purse Bonuses:

• Since 2008 the Owner of a Registered Ontario-Bred horse earns an additional 20% in purse money in open races run in Ontario until it has been claimed.

• The 20 % Ontario Bred Purse Bonus is paid to the owner of eligible Registered Ontario Bred at the time the purse is paid out.

Ontario Sired Purse Bonuses:

• At Fort Eire Racetrack a 20% purse bonus for Ontario Sired horses is paid out in all open races.

• A horse can only be claimed once, regardless of where it was claimed, in any given calendar year, to be eligible for this bonus. The horse automatically becomes ineligible once claimed for the second time. Eligibility commences at the beginning of each racing year.
